Usually every Sunday, there's a science lecture for the station to let everyone know what's going on with the various projects around here. Even though there's only a couple hundred people here, there's a lot of separation- more than you might think. Today's talk was by some of the astronomers looking at background radiation and mapping it. These are the people who are building maps of the universe in order to understand how it was formed and are using this to help build up a new grand unification theory on how everything works. I have no idea, but it's usually the physicists who make grand statements like that and come up with bold slides like this one!
By the way, most people here are not scientists, and like my friend Jessica commented (the knitter in front), these guys could do a lot to present their findings in more layman terms rather than throwing a lot of differential equations on some pretty slides. I agree that these guys are totally smart, but they could do a lot more to reach the general audience, and maybe get more funding by making it more sexy to the taxpayers who are actually paying for it! Take note of that all you beakers out there!
