For a few weeks, we had some visitors- Dan (of NOAA Corps on the left) came to visit and see the station. He'll be wintering over next year and this was his opportunity to see the station and get a taste of what he'll be getting into next year. Eric (NOAA from Boulder) came by to check our network and update our computers and check our security (it would look bad if a hacker managed to get into the south pole network through a NOAA computer!). Their work is done and now they're waiting for their flight out at the PAX terminal out on the skiway.
I think they both had fun here. Eric ran out of things to do and Dan, who's based in American Samoa right now is in a hurry to get back home as the NOAA CMDL station there was hit by a catagory 5 hurricane the previous weekend- so he gets to go home and put all the instrumentation back up that wasn't destroyed and get things back on line and see if the roof leaks into his room. Might sound similar to some people I know who's field station burned down this past summer!
