The SETI AASTO Telescope

This instrument is located near ARO and was put up last summer (2003).  There was an atmospheric experiment in the same spot earlier that summer and this site took over the power installation.  SETI, as you might already know stands for "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence"- it's a small institution that has some money for research and this is one of them.  The system is mostly automated and Dana's job is to make sure that the overall system is working so these are pictures of the various hardware in this site.

Mostly lots of computer hardware in the building to take data and control the telescope scanning mechanisms.

The room stays nice and warm as you can see.

    The shack from the outside.

Some shots of the telescope and G-mount it sits on.  Dana is on the right.

   Dana with the telescope opening.

The "dummy" side of the telecope- the mount can hold two, but just for balance, this is put on the other side.

   The telescope cable box.

Some inside shots of the lens.

    Yes, it's a SETI!

Some of the SETI webcams.  From what I've heard the one on the stick worked through the winter.  I'm not sure about the one on the left.
